Lantern Festival

LanternFestival 093

The Lantern Festival in China is part of the New Year festivities. It is held on the fifteenth day of the New Year, on the lunar calendar – i.e. the first full moon of the new  year.

The city government of Suzhou – not very far from Shanghai – has just announced this year’s Lantern Festival will be cancelled, due to the tragic deaths in Shanghai over the Gregorian calender’s New Year celebrations.

Here’s some pictures from last years lantern festival in Suzhou, to whet your appetite!
